PROJECT NARRATIVE

Colorful lights… Smell of grilled food… Crescendo of music… Festive spirit… Lots of people…

Night Café is something to look forward to. Patronizers of all ages can’t help but get excited for Friday and Saturday nights to arrive.

“It’s the place, the people and the food that make me come back and crave for more,” according to Dr. Rolando D. Acoriba Jr.

Whether you traveled eight miles to Divisoria, it’s no big deal at all. Located at the very heart of the city, Night Café speaks for itself when it comes to attracting people. “Night Café reflects the festive character of the Filipinos”, Dr. Acoriba added.

In comparison to other hang-outs, Night Café is very unique. People go there to eat, drink a little and unwind. Dr. Acoriba also said that it’s a good escape from the whole week’s work. The place is better since it is cozy and really festive.

Different foods are served with different styles, but they have one thing in common. They are all delicious. All is cooked and served with a high spirit. “Very affordable,” answered Dr. Acoriba after asked why he keeps coming back for more.

Dr. Acoriba had no negative views since everything in the Night Café seem to be going perfectly well. It’s a good thing that it became a project of the Department of Tourism. It makes us appreciate our very own city and leaves us saying, “WOW! Night Café!”

We also interviewed one family who visited the place. The Patacsil family members often come to Night Café. They said that the place is peaceful and secured compared to Manila where a lot of pickpockets dwell. Also, Mr. and Mrs. Cagulangan, an elderly couple visited the Night Café for the first time. They said that the place is “Bibo.” (lively). Despite some negative views, the Night Café Cagayan de Oro is today’s number one mob drawer in the city.

  Saturday night.

Once again Divisoria is filled with families and friends eating, talking, laughing and enjoying the crescendo of music.

Our stomachs were already grumbling after the stroll. We sat down and ordered some barbecue. Much to our curiosity, we grabbed the chance to ask a few questions to the stall owner. Mrs. Ellen Nacasabog, a resident in C.M. Recto Avenue, Cagayan de Oro City, didn’t fail us.

Sophia and Lea, interview one of the stall owners,

Mrs. Ellen Nacasabog.

“How much is your capital every weekend night?” we asked. “As for my capital, I have Php4000,” replied Mrs. Nacasabog. She also said that she earns Php5500 every night with a profit of Php1500. That is if all her foodstuffs are totally sold. She even said that the Night Café has helped her and her family a lot financially. Since the Night Café started in September, she earned more from it compared to her ala carte business in C.M. Recto, especially during Friday and Saturday nights. “How do you find having a business here in the Night Café?” our team asked. “It’s fun. We meet a lot of people. What satisfies me in this business is serving good food while earning. Though tiresome, but the spirit in here relaxes me. It’s great to see families eating together and friends having fun together.”

It was indeed fun to have a short chit-chat with Mrs. Nacasabog. But the band is already starting and we still have to go to the band stand. We wouldn’t want to miss the enthralling music!
