School’s Website: http://www.ldcu.edu.ph PROJECT OVERVIEW Description of “Our Community”Cagayan de Oro City, also known as the Gateway to Northern Mindanao, is geographically located along the central coast of Mindanao. Bounded by two municipalities: Misamis Oriental – Tagoloan and Opol. The city is the arrival point for about 80% of the visitors in the region. Cagayan de Oro invites opportunities for booming businesses. One of the top places in Mindanao with great potential for stability and economic reforms, it is the growing investment choice in the region. The name Cagayan de Oro was derived from the word “Kagayan”, which means “the place of gold”. The term was later changed into “Cagayan” during the Spanish colonization. The phrase “de Oro” was added when gold was found in the river. From the name itself Cagayan de Oro, the city is not only rich in gold but is also proven to be rich in values. Thus, it is also coined as “The City of Golden Friendship”. Noted to be the most densely populated area in the region. This is an indication of a progressive and booming economy. Cagayan de Oro has made it not just into tourism but into various business connections as well and fine indication of growth, improvement in the field of education and economy. Summary of our ProjectThe general idea of this project talks about the conceptualization such as the people behind, highlights of the different categories (like the ambience, people, food, and music), and most of all to promote tourism in Cagayan de Oro through the Night Café. This beautiful spot was formally launched last September 2003 and is already featured in the WOW Philippines! So there is a great reason for our team to make a project like this. The creation of this site showcases some effects for the web page designing. As a matter of fact, this is the only site that features the Night Café Cagayan de Oro. That is why the team got very excited while still on the process of building up this site. Our Computer and Internet AccessA.
Percentage of students using the Internet at home: 75% B.
Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom: 120 C.
Connection speed used in the classroom: 300 kbps D.
Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet: 6 Problems We Had to OvercomeThe team encountered several problems with our Internet connection. Since there are 80 computer units in the school laboratories, the connection is slow. There weren’t a continuous connection on the Internet whish caused the delay of the work. We also experienced some minor health problems. Since the groups faced the computer screens always, we had experienced headaches and feverish feelings. The group also had to interview a number of local officials who worked in the conceptualization of the Night Café. We had to make appointments with them and set dates for the meeting. We also had a hard time visiting the Night Café because it is only held during the weekends. So we had to wait until Friday and Saturday to arrive for us to personally feel the excitement in Divisoria. Although we came across all those problems, still, we were very determined to finish the entry. We learned to face and surmount the obstacles. At our early age, we have managed to face some of the highly respected officials in the city. Our Project Sound Bite The realization of this CyberFair project makes each and every Kagay-anon appreciate our very own Night Café.
How did your activities and research for this International Schools CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
This
web page designing project was first put into practice as a school
project. Classes under Miss Fritzie L. Caybot, the team coach, were
pointed out to make web pages as a requirement.
With this strategy, the
students were able to learn how to make web pages and increased their
computer literacy. The coach then chose the top students who made
excellent web pages. And thus, the team was organized.
All of these mean that
Liceo de Cagayan University is a prestige and an outstanding institution.
Since last year, the school won first place in the environment category.
This time, we are aiming to win again. PROJECT
ELEMENTS What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?
The
completion of the CyberFair project cannot be made successfully without
the use of information tools and technologies. The team made use of the
school facilities. Like any other projects, the most reliable information
equipment that helped the team a lot is the computer with a Celeron-type
Processor. Aside from that, there are also other important devices that
helped the team accomplish the web page. Examples are the telephone, video
and digital still camera, scanner, tape recorder, computer software, the
university library, reading materials. In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person?
To make a wonderful and
informative web page, the team interviewed a lot of persons. We were able
to gather views and information from the City Hall with the City Council
Secretary Mr. Arturo S. de San Miguel. The City Government was very
impressed and overwhelmed because we featured their very own project.
Our lines were very busy
since we had to schedule appointments for interviews. After the interviews
at the Night Café, we directly proceeded to the City Hall for further
queries.
Making this web page is
a great contribution and share to our beloved city. As the makers, we were
able to promote our community through the prestige and unique Night Café. What has been the impact of your project on your community?
Our
project has been the first site to feature the Cagayan de Oro Night Café.
The team’s main objective is to inform people from around the globe to
come and visit the Night Café, thus, boosting our city’s tourism. We
included facts about the making of the Night Café including the budget
and resources, future expansion and other relevant information. Teenagers
and adults have visited the site. They noted that the site is something
new and unique. How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
The
team gathered feedbacks and needed information from the Kagay-anons, who
patronize and enjoy their nightlife at the captivating Night Café.
Because our project focuses on the city’s tourist spot, Kagay-anons were
involved as helpers and volunteers. We were able to gather idea and point
of views from them as to what makes the Night Café so unique. Our
interviewees were so kind that they shared their knowledge with us
truthfully. Even the City Council Secretary, Mr. Arturo S. de San Miguel,
was very kind for giving us fact sheets to add more content on our web
page. The
team really appreciated and extends their heartfelt gratitude to the City
Government, the Police Force with PO3 Cedric B. Lugod, stall owners, most
especially Mrs. Ellen Nacasabog, the avid Night Café customers and the
rest of the friendly Kagay-anons.
